Privacy Policy

This policy explains how Camp & Glamp Guide (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses and protects your personal information when you use our website. We process personal information in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).

Who we are (the Responsible Party)

Camp & Glamp Guide is operated by Jarred & Tamerone Manasse, based in the Western Cape, South Africa. We are the “responsible party” for your personal information under POPIA. For any privacy questions, or to exercise your rights, contact us at hello@campglampguide.com.

The information we collect

We only collect what we need, and only when you give it to us:

• Contact & enquiry details - your name, email address and message when you use our contact form or suggest a site.
• Newsletter sign-ups - your email address (and name, if provided), if you subscribe.
• Comments - any name and text you choose to post on a review.
• Usage information - basic, mostly anonymous data such as pages visited and device type, collected through cookies and analytics (see “Cookies” below).

How we use your information

• To respond to your enquiries and site suggestions.
• To send you our newsletter, if you have signed up for it.
• To display comments you submit on review pages.
• To understand how the site is used so we can improve it.

We process your information on the basis of your consent, or for our legitimate interests in running the site - whichever applies.

Sharing your information

We do not sell your personal information, and we never share it for third-party advertising in exchange for payment. We share it only with trusted service providers (“operators” under POPIA) who help us run the site, and only to the extent needed to provide their service. These currently include:

• Google Analytics (Google LLC) - anonymous, aggregated website usage statistics.
• Meta Pixel (Meta Platforms, Inc.) - measurement of visits and actions, loaded only after you accept cookies.
• Formspree - secure delivery of contact-form submissions to our inbox.
• Our newsletter platform - to store subscriber emails and send our newsletter, if you sign up.
• YouTube (Google LLC) - embedded review videos.

We may also disclose information where we are legally required to, or to protect our rights, safety or property.

How we keep it secure

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information against loss, unauthorised access and misuse, including HTTPS encryption across the site and limiting access to the people who need it. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, but we work to protect your information and to keep our providers accountable for doing the same.

Where your information is stored

Some of our service providers may store data outside South Africa. Where this happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information is afforded a comparable level of protection, as required by POPIA.

How long we keep it

We keep your personal information only as long as necessary for the purposes set out above, or as required by law. You can ask us to delete your information at any time (see “Your rights”).

Cookies & analytics

We use cookies and similar technologies for three purposes: (1) essential cookies that make the site work and remember your preferences; (2) analytics (Google Analytics) to understand, in aggregate, how the site is used; and (3) marketing/measurement (Meta Pixel) which loads only after you choose “Accept” on our cookie banner. If you choose “Essential only”, the Meta Pixel is never loaded. Embedded YouTube videos may also set their own cookies once you play a video. You can change your choice at any time by clearing cookies, and you can control cookies through your browser settings.

Automated decisions

We do not use your personal information to make automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.

Your rights under POPIA

You have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you.
• Ask us to correct or update it.
• Ask us to delete it, or object to how we use it.
• Withdraw your consent at any time (for example, by unsubscribing).
• Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa.

Children

Our site is not directed at children under 18, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The “last updated” date at the top shows when it last changed.
